There are no limits to children’s mind picturing, and arts are a great way for them to turn that mind picturing into something more, with a tendency to produce. They might even discover an amusement /special interest, like drawing, that can later become income earning activity, like graphic design.
Why art and crafts are important for child development
Children love to do arts and crafts and it’s important for them to practice it.
• Motor skills
When kids use their fingers to manipulate art materials they are developing their fine motors skills as they use those small muscles in their hands.
When children make art or crafts they get to talk about their work which develops their communication skills, for example: “Why did you choose that colour?” “Tell me about what you made.”
• Math Concepts
Children get to learn about and recognise different shapes, count and sort out their art supplies and even measure out lengths and sizes of art materials. To master math, you need good thinking and problem-solving skills which art and crafts activities help with as well.
Art allows children to develop their creativity which is important throughout their lives. By doing something creative, you allow for self-expression and this allows children to express (and cope with) their feelings.
Creativity is not about doing something better than others, it is about thinking, exploring, discovering, and imagining.
Art and craft activities give children a sense of achievement and allow them to take pride in their work which builds confidence.
